Monday Night 11/14 Game

Tuesday, November 15th, 2005

Well this was the night for HCO, a win and we would win our league championship.

In the first inning we took the field first and didn’t allow a run and then we scored 3 runs, for a 3-0 lead. In the second inning, we kept the other team from scoring again and then we pushed 8 runs across the plate and we were up 11-0.

In the 3rd, we held the opposing team again and then we blew the doors open on the game with 10 more runs for a 21-0 lead. In the 4th, we gave up 1 run in the top of the inning and going into the bottom of the 4th the umps called the game due to the fifteen run rule. The final score was 21-1.

Our final record was 5-1 and due to our earlier victory of the Red Asses, who also finished at 5-1, we are the champions of the league. This is the first championship for the HCO softball team and we celebrated in grand style. On a personal note, I want to thank everyone on the team for a hell of a season, to win that league championship felt pretty damn good:)

Up next is the winter 1-pitch leagues and during the next couple of weeks I will make a post to explain the differences in the winter 1-pitch league.

Wendesday night team 11/9

Saturday, November 12th, 2005

Due to a conflict in my schedule I couldn’t make the Wendsday night game this week. Apparently the HCO team won it 15-6, so I think it was a good game I missed:)

The Wendesday night team finished this season 4-2 and in second place in the league. All in all a good showing.

Monday Night 11/7 game

Monday, November 7th, 2005

Well, let me take some time here and set the stage for you:

Coming into tonight, the HCO team, the Red Asses and the TMHP team all had 1 loss and with TMHP winning their first game of the double header, we all had 3-1 records in the league. Because we had won one and lost one against TMHP, but had beaten the Red Asses, we needed the Red Asses to beat TMHP to give us a shot at the league title. And that is exactly what happened as the Red Asses scored a run in the bottom of the 6th to win 13-12.

So, we came into the game needed to win our last two games versus the DPS Crime Lab team and we would win the league title. So we started off the game as the visitors needing to get off to a fast start to help secure our chances of winning the league. And a fast start is what we got, as we managed to score 12 runs in the top of the first. Our defense was great in the bottom half of the inning and after 1 we were up 12-0.

In the second we put 5 more runs across while giving up 3 in the bottom half of the inning and after 2 we had a 17-3 lead. Neither team managed to score in the 3rd inning and in the 4th, we put up 6 more runs and the defense held in the bottom half of the inning to win 23-3. The game was called at that point due to a 15 run rule used in the Austin CoRec Leagues after 4 innings.

Kudos must go out to our own Fat Nasty who turned in a 4-4 with 4 HR performance at the plate. Even when he didn’t hit them well, he hit them well.

So to set the stage for next week, its all in our control. We are 4-1, along with the Red Asses but thanks to our earlier victory over them, we would own the tie breaker if we end up with the same record. Therefore a win next week and the League Championship is all ours. So I invite everyone who reads this blog and from HCO to come out next Monday, November 14th at 7:25 PM, Havins field #3 to see if we can wrap up the league title.

Wednesday Night Team 11/2

Sunday, November 6th, 2005

Well this was a rough game for us tonight, and our loss gave our opponent (the only team in this league to beat us) the league championship.

We gave up only 2 runs in the first and came back in the second half of the inning with 4 to give ourselves a 2 run lead.

But in the second inning they started hitting the tar out of the ball and we gave up 10 runs and were down 12-4. We were scoreless the next two innings and in the bottom of the 4th we managed a small rally and plate 3 runs after giving up 2 in the top of the 4th and we were down 14-7.

We came up to bat in the 5th to try one of our typical HCO rallies, but on this night the rally would not come. We managed to get a couple of people on base but couldn’t string the hits together to score any runs. So we ended up losing 14-7.

That puts our record in this league at 3-2 and with a win next week we will finish in second place in the league. Due to another committment I will not be at the next game but hopefully I can get details to add to the blog.
