Den of Swine Game 5/23/07
Friday, May 25th, 2007The Den of Swine rode an unprecedented defensive effort to a tight 7-5 win Wednesday night. In the first inning we put up 2 runs to jump out to a quick lead that was cut in half in the bottom of the first by our opponents. In the second we were held scoreless and gave up 4 runs in the bottom half of the inning before Jeff made a falling down catch in the outfield to end their run. As it turns out, those 4 runs would be the last runs we gave up in the game.
In the third we managed to score one run to get the deficit down to 2 at 5-3. The bottom half of the inning ended for our opponents when Jeff again managed to make a falling down catch in the outfield. In the fourth inning we went down quickly and quietly failing to score a run for the second time in the game but in the bottom half of the inning we managed to get our opponents go down one, two, three to fall no further behind. In the fifth the bats finally came alive as we put together a 3 run rally that gave us the lead back for the first time since the start of the game.
We tacked on one run in the top of the sixth to extend our lead to 7-5. After a couple of outs our opponents had the tying run on first base when a line drive ball was hit to the outfield. This time Jeff managed to catch the ball standing up to secure the victory. That inning marked the 4th straight inning in which we didn’t give up a run, which for us has to be some sort of record. The win runs the DOS record to 2-1 for the Summer I season.
