Den of Swine Game 5/23/07

Friday, May 25th, 2007

The Den of Swine rode an unprecedented defensive effort to a tight 7-5 win Wednesday night.  In the first inning we put up 2 runs to jump out to a quick lead that was cut in half in the bottom of the first by our opponents.  In the second we were held scoreless and gave up 4 runs in the bottom half of the inning before Jeff made a falling down catch in the outfield to end their run.  As it turns out, those 4 runs would be the last runs we gave up in the game.

In the third we managed to score one run to get the deficit down to 2 at 5-3.  The bottom half of the inning ended for our opponents when Jeff again managed to make a falling down catch in the outfield.  In the fourth inning we went down quickly and quietly failing to score a run for the second time in the game but in the bottom half of the inning we managed to get our opponents go down one, two, three to fall no further behind.  In the fifth the bats finally came alive as we put together a 3 run rally that gave us the lead back for the first time since the start of the game.

We tacked on one run in the top of the sixth to extend our lead to 7-5.  After a couple of outs our opponents had the tying run on first base when a line drive ball was hit to the outfield.  This time Jeff managed to catch the ball standing up to secure the victory. That inning marked the 4th straight inning in which we didn’t give up a run, which for us has to be some sort of record. The win runs the DOS record to 2-1 for the Summer I season.

Up Dawg Game 5/21/2007

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

A solid all around game propelled the Up Dawg team to a 15-8 victory Monday night.  The first inning started with a bang when Mike (the birthday boy) led off the game with a double followed by an RBI single from Cindy.  Q then came through with a home run thanks to a throwing error by our opponent.  Our opponents managed to answer back in the bottom of the first to tie the score at 3 after 1 inning.  In the 2nd we were able to score only one run but an excellent defensive inning held our opponents scoreless and we clung to a one run lead.

In the third, we opened up the game by scoring 5 runs and holding our opponent to just 1 in the bottom half of the inning.  In the fourth we put up 3 more runs and had another good defensive inning giving up only one run to take a 12-5 lead.  In the fifth, with time running out we scored 3 more runs and we managed to cut off our opponent’s rally at 3 runs to get to the final 15-8 score.  Up Dawg has jumped out to a 2-0 record to start the summer season.

Den of Swine Game 5/9/07

A disastorous 13 run first set the stage for a 20-6 defeat for the Den of Swine.  It was an off game all around that started as a good game as we put up 4 runs in the top of the first.  But in the bottom half of the inning our opponents put up 13 runs and the rest of the game was a defensive struggle with good plays on both sides.

Den of Swine Game 5/2/07

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

The Den of Swine took the field to begin the Summer I season Wednesday night and came away with a hard fought 7-4 win.

The bats were pretty silent through the first few innings as we fell behind 3-0 after 2 and a half innings.  In the bottom of the third we managed to get a run across to get onto the board.  In the fourth our defense continue to hold and we managed to plate a couple of runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 3.

In the fifth we took our first lead of the game scoring a run to take a 4-3 advantage.  In the top of the sixth our opponents tied the score at 4.  In the bottom of the sixth, Jason and Sharon (welcome back, Sharon!) both singled to put the go ahead run on second.  Yours truly then came to the plate and hit a single that scored Jason from second for the go ahead run.  After Cindy walked and Chad popped out, the bases were loaded with 1 out and little time left on the clock.  Melissa then came through with an infield hit that scored both Sharon and I as time ran out.  That made the final score 7-4.
