Up Dawg holds on for 11-8 victory

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

A big third inning rally fueled Up Dawg to an 11-8 victory this week.  The game started as a defensive struggle as we managed to push a run around for a 1-0 lead after the first inning.  In the second inning both teams went 3 up 3 down then a home run causing error by yours truly allowed 2 runs to score and we trailed for the first time 2-1.

In the bottom of the third our bats came alive as we rallied for 6 runs highlighted by Mike S. coming through with a 3 run homerun, his first of the season.  The defense continued to hold in the 4th as we gave up only one run and the bats kept working in the bottom half of the inning as we pushed our lead out to 11-3.  In the top of the fifth we gave up 5 runs before recording an out but the defense returned just in time to maintain a 3 run lead.  As we batted to run out the clock, Mandy ran out a routine pop fly and managed to avoid the double play as time expired on the clock to perserve a 11-8 victory.

The win moves makes Up Dawg 3-1 for the season with 2 games left to play in the season.

In the bottom of the third we managed to bat around again, scoring 8 runs, thanks in large part to a 3 run home run by Mike.  The third inning took long enough to run out the clock and set the final margin at 20-6.  The win moves the Balls of Fury record to 2-3 on the season with 3 games left coming up after a bye.

Bad News Bears Inning dooms Up Dawg

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

The Bad News Bears inning struck Up Dawg again as they fell 18-8.  The game started off well as both teams defenses held up and the score was 1-0 for our opponents after two innings.  The bats finally started to come alive in the third as we took our first lead of the game 2-1.  Two more runs in the fourth extended the lead at 4-1 before the calamity ensued.

In the fifth inning, everything that could go wrong, did.  Every hit by our opponents hit an open area, all the throws were off and when all was said and down we had give up 10 runs and found ourselves down 11-4.  Clint came through with a Grand Slam homerun to pull the score to within 11-8 after 5.  In the sixth, the hits kept coming for our opponent as they put together 7 more runs to take a 18-8 lead.  No rally was forthcoming this time as we were unable to score any more runs before the game ended.  The loss drops the Up Dawg record to 2-1 on the season and has created a 3 way tie for first in the league.

Balls of Fury snaps losing streak with last inning rally

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Balls of Fury snapped their two game losing streak with a 9-8 victory secured on the last at bat.  The game started rather slow for both teams as the score was only 3-1 after two innings with Balls of Fury in the lead.  The lead quickly vanished as we found ourselves down 5-4 after three innings.

The fourth and fifth innings continue the low scoring back and forth affair with Balls of Fury trailing 8-6 after the fifth inning.  The defense held in the top of the sixth to set the stage for a last inning rally.  After getting 1 out,  Mike got the rally started with a leadoff triple and was driven home by a seeing eye single by Paulette.  Quenton hit a double to right to put runners on 2nd and 3rd and after Tara drew a walk to load the bases with 1 out.  Then yours truly somehow got a lucky single between the third baseman and the shortstop that scored Paulette to tie the game, but then heads up base running by Q scored the game winning run.

Balls of Fury moved their record to 1-2 on the season.
